There are some situations in which it is best to have a custom home built for you instead of purchasing a pre-existing house. Continue reading to find out what these situations are.

You already own the perfect plot and have planning permission

The main thing that deters people from building custom homes is the prospect of having to find the perfect plot of land on which to build their properties and then having to obtain planning permission for building on their purchased plots.

This is arguably the most challenging and time-consuming part of the entire process; it involves a lot of research, a lot of visits to various potential plots and a great deal of paperwork. Depending on the person's requirements and budget, it may take them anything from a few months to a couple of years to get through this stage.

As such, if you are fortunate enough to already have a high-quality piece of land on which to construct your house and you have received planning permission for your project, then it is definitely worth opting for a custom-built home.

In this situation, the hardest part of the process will already be done and dusted, and so you and your chosen contractor can simply get started with designing and constructing your dream home.

You are unwilling to make too many compromises when it comes to the building's design and features

Some people are perfectly happy to buy properties with very simple, generic layouts and features. In such cases, these individuals may be better off buying pre-existing properties, as they do not have any strong preferences or requirements that need to be met.

If this is not the case for you, then building a custom home may be the wiser option. If you go down this route, you will enjoy a degree of freedom with regards to the design, features and layout of your new home, which would be unachievable if you were to buy a pre-built house.

You can, for example, have a sunny, north-facing kitchen and a cooler, south-facing living room, if you so choose. Likewise, you can have, for instance, three tall, arched windows in your dining room, and no windows at all in your home cinema room.

In short, you don't have to try to make any compromises when it comes to the size, shape and design of your new home. As such, if you have very exacting tastes, then a custom-built home is probably the right choice for you.
